Carrie Baxter Fine Art
My encaustic paintings are created using layers of molten beeswax mixed with natural pigments, fused together with heat. I work in multiple translucent layers, allowing colors and forms to visually merge, creating a luminous depth and sense of atmosphere. The process is both physical and meditative, as each layer must be carefully applied and reheated to bond with the one beneath it. Conceptually, my work explores themes of memory, transformation, and the passage of time—echoed in the way each layer partially conceals and reveals what came before.
"My artwork draws inspiration from elements of nature and explores the complex relationship between humans and the environment. As inhabitants of this planet alongside all forms of life—both flora and fauna—it is vital to remember that we share a collective existence. Nature is powerful and often resilient, yet human presence leaves an enduring impact, even in absence. Through my work, I aim to encourage reflection on how our actions shape the natural world and to emphasize the importance of mindful coexistence with the environment." - Carrie Baxter
