I just received my painting “Morning Glory Rim” back through USPS mail from a show. Unfortunately they forgot to wrap the painting in the packing materials it was shipped in, so it came home just loose within the box. Luckily the only damage was that the painting popped loose from the float-frame so I should be able to fix it up as good as new. This was the first time I decided to try shipping my work for an exhibition. Next time, hopefully I'll remember that shipping your artwork can still be a risk, because even though I send the piece securely packed within the box, the person shipping it back may not repackage my work the same as I had. Even if all packing materials are saved, I should realize that the shipper may not remember how it is all put together. Hmm, maybe I should consider including packing instructions? That might help. I have had experience with trying to remember how to repack several different works for several different artists who all had different packing methods. After a show hangs for several months, it can be difficult to remember how to put each different work and package back together for shipping. I sometimes take photos as I unwrap packages so I can refer to them four months later when I need a reminder on how to put it all back together.
